How do I get to a new belt in Karate?
Everyone starts in Karate as a white belt and then progresses through the grades as their skills develop through training and practice, to get to the next grade all students will go through a Grading process whereby they must demonstrate their knowledge and skill by completing techniques (Kihon), Kata and Kumite.
Each student will be supported by our instructors throughout each class to build towards these Gradings and ensure they are ready. As students move up the grades these Gradings become more complex but are designed to build skills gradually and allow each student to develop at their own pace. These gradings take the form of a test in which students will perform the required grading in front of a panel of the club's instructors (the Grading Panel) to ensure each student is able to perform the grading material to the required standard to pass to the next grade. Each of the club's grading sheets (i.e. the test) is included in this website under the "Gradings & Grading Sheets" dropdown - the below button will direct to the White - Red belt grading. |
How does the belt system work?
Belts are used in Karate to signify the grade of students, each club may operate slightly differently in regards to the order of the belts however the premise remains the same. For the Dalry Katsumushi Karate Club the order is: - White Belt (beginner) - Red Belt - Orange Belt - Yellow Belt - Green Belt - Purple Belt - Purple & White Belt - Brown Belt - 2nd Brown Belt - Brown & White Belt - Black Belt |
