The Dalry Katsumushi Karate club was founded in 1981 by Sensei Jack Harvey (4th Dan Black Belt) in North Ayrshire and follows the Shotokan style of Karate as well as incorporating general principles of self defense. The club sets out to allow students to learn and develop a much better understanding of the martial art of Karate as well as enhancing general fitness, self confidence & overall awareness and discipline.
Students in the club will participate in all aspects of Karate & are assisted by senior black belts to help them progress from grade to grade working towards achieving a black belt themselves. The syllabus developed and used by the club allows students to build from a solid basic foundation in Karate whilst advancing towards more difficult aspects of the martial art.
The club forms part of the North Ayrshire Sports Karate Association (NASKA) along with the Irvine Takeda Karate club and welcomes any beginners to join the club from the age of 5 and upwards. Should you have practiced Karate before you will also be more than welcome to join the club.
Sensei Harvey's belief was that "The first rule of Karate is discipline, which is closely followed by respect for others. It must be stressed that Karate is an art and not a sport. Although there is an element of sport involved, it is primarily an art. A large percentage of any training session is spent on the technical aspects of Karate techniques"
